Why it matters: Bigger stage, updated amenities, and a new regional footprint for fans and families
Why the Change?
Officials point to a modern, university setting with stronger amenities and sightlines for fans. The move also refreshes the geographic rotation, bringing the spectacle closer to schools and communities that previously faced long treks to Polk County.
“UNF offers a championship atmosphere that can elevate the experience for student-athletes and fans alike.”

What Lakeland Loses — and Keeps
Lakeland’s Championship Week has meant packed hotels, busy restaurants, and a community buzz every March. While the hoops showcase relocates, the city is still expected to host other state events—like cheer and weightlifting—so some of the spotlight stays on Polk County.
What Jacksonville Gains
Jacksonville steps in with a ready-made collegiate arena, strong hospitality infrastructure, and a fan base eager to welcome the state’s best teams. The multi-day event should bring a lift to local hotels, restaurants, and businesses.
“Playing in a college arena feels like the next level.”
— Senior guard, Class of 2026 (South Florida)
The Athlete & Fan Experience
For players, a university court provides that “big stage” feel—from walk-outs to locker rooms. For families and fans, UNF’s updated seating, lighting, and concourses promise better comfort and sightlines. Travel patterns will change—some go farther, others get closer—but the energy should stay electric.
